You can hide a lot behind a goofy smile...

The idea of this graphic story comes from how Derpy is always being potrayed as a joke and a "funny" pony, mostly due to her eyes. How her every (only) word gets thrown about by all and made into a widespread joke. It's almost as if she's getting virtually bullied by her own fanbase. All we ever see her doing is playing it cool in the background and helping other ponies by delivering there mail, through a lot of serious weather conditiions, that she herself has to create! Does she really deserve such ridicule?

I don't personally have anything against funny Derpy art, I just thought it was a good foundation to create a sad, graphic story on. I've already attempted epic, atmospheric and cute pony art, so wanted to try something different with this.

For those who think this seems a little out of character for Pinkie Pie, know that the intention was not for her to come across as a bully, but meerly to show her being her usual silly self, while being completely oblivious to the emotional damage she's causing others in the doing so.

EDIT: Now 20% sader. Derpy's ears are now down on the top and bottom picture. The text is now more blurred to fit in with the spirit of the picture better. Fixed some shading issues around the picture as a whole and generally smoothed it out and cleaned it up.
If you think the changes aren't for the best then I can always revert to the previous file.

The use of black and white, instead of the normal full-color reserved for pieces like this, is what strikes me first. As you read further down and you find out what the comic is really about (and there's really nothing 'comic' about what Derpy is portrayed as going through), one starts to see that the choice of black and white was a good one, as it serves to emphasize the emotions being presented. Nothing in the piece serves to distract the reader from the emotions being attempted to be conveyed, but rather it enhances the feeling of sorrow that Derpy has when other ponies do not take the time to understand the unique circumstances. All in all, a very striking and solemn piece.
